ED is the inability to get or maintain an erection. ED can include an erection that is hard to get an erection that is not long enough for sex.

Today, the most common treatments for ED include things like oral medications and surgery. But before these more modern treatments, men often relied on prostatic massage to ease their ED symptoms. Some men still use it today in combination with other treatments.

We will explain how prostatic massage works, how it is used, and more in this article.

Language matters

The term “men” is used to reflect the term ” gender people”. Your gender identity may not match how your body responds to this condition. A doctor can help you understand your situation.

Men with ED may benefit from prostatic massage. Infections and blocked fluids might be stopped by massage. Some studies show that a massage for the symptoms of ED improves men.

Prostatic massage has been used since the 19th century as a treatment for prostatitis, or an inflamed prostate. It’s since been considered a treatment for ED.

However, these studies have been small. Prostatic massage is not considered a mainstream form of ED treatment. But for some men, this alternative option may be helpful in addition to other forms of treatment.

A prostate massage is similar to a digital rectal exam. But instead of checking the prostate for signs of cancer or enlargement, a doctor or specialty-trained massage therapist will massage the prostate to release blocked fluids and stimulate blood flow.

Prostatic massage is a very specific and targeted procedure that should be performed by a trained professional. It would be inappropriate to request this procedure from most massage therapists.

A doctor should be the one to perform a prostatic massage.

A prostatic massage is performed by placing a lubricated, gloved finger into your rectum and applying pressure to your prostate. The procedure is not usually painful, but some may find it uncomfortable.

Some doctors or practitioners will massage the prostate until you produce a thin, milky fluid called prostate fluid. This process, also known as prostate milking, is also sometimes used for sexual arousal.

The long-term effects of prostatic massage have been promising in the limited studies.

After several weeks of treatment, many men in these studies experienced fewer issues with ED. However, the long-term benefits of this type of treatment are not known, and other research is limited.

This type of treatment is not harmful. A doctor may suggest you have prostatic massage every few years to help with your symptoms.

If your doctor finds a cause, you may not need a massage.

Internet videos for prostatic massage are not very helpful for your purposes.

If you are working with a urologist, family health doctor, or sexual health expert, you should ask them to help you find a prostatic massage therapist.

Some doctors who specialize in ED treatment may have a doctor on staff who can recommend one to you. Doctors may even perform prostatic massage on themselves.

Make sure the person you choose is trained for prostatic massage. A general massage therapist is not capable of performing this type of treatment.

Prostatic massage is a type of massage that uses a gentle massage to massage the tissues around your groin. You may need more frequent treatments or a longer treatment period.

In a previous study, men underwent a massage treatment three to four times per week for at least 4 weeks. Prostate massage was shown to be effective as a treatment for prostatitis, one physical cause of ED.

There is still no evidence of the effectiveness of a massage for ED.

If you have health insurance, it may not cover this type of treatment. Call your health insurance company to request coverage verification before you start the massage treatments. Ask the massage therapist to do the same.

If these treatments are not covered, you should talk to your doctor or massage therapist about the costs.

“If you can’t get an erection for a long time, there may be an underlying issue. This can cause stress, anxiety, or relationship issues in your daily life. If you are having similar issues over a period of time, you should contact a doctor.”

Your doctor will discuss several treatment options during this appointment. Discuss prostatic massage with your doctor if you are interested in it.

If you decide to try a massage at home, be careful. If the person receiving the massage has hemorrhoids or anal fissures, it is strongly encouraged to delay the procedure.

It is possible to tear the delicate tissues surrounding the prostrate. If you show signs of rectal bleeding, you should see a doctor to get additional treatment to prevent the spread of the disease.

Does massage therapy help with erectile dysfunction?

There are not many studies to support the claim. Most studies that looked at massage therapy for ED were small or limited.

For example, one study of 115 men looked specifically at massage therapy in those with enlarged prostates. It showed promising signs that prostate massage could help relieve symptoms, but ED was not the only symptom analyzed.

One anecdotal review found that a man who used prostate massage to recover from a prostate infection quickly regained sexual function.

These studies and others like them are limited in their scope. There is not much evidence to support the use of a massage for ED. There have not been studies that show the procedure to be harmful.

Where do you massage for erectile dysfunction?

You can massage the prostrate. The size of the prostrate is about the size of a walnut. It is at the front of the rectum. The urethra is a tube that empties urine.

A massage therapist or doctor will insert a lubricated finger into the rectum to massage the prostatic area.

A prostate massage may not be recommended if you have anal fissures or hemorrhoids due to the risk of infection or aggravating these conditions.

Can massage therapy cure erectile dysfunction?

There is no evidence to suggest massage therapy is a good treatment for ED. Some small studies have shown that men who use the practice do experience some positive results.

If you are experiencing ED, talk to your doctor about the possible causes and what treatments are available. Infections and enlarged testicles could be causing erection difficulties. Treatments could restore function.

It is important to understand the limits of massage therapy. The research is not strong and it might be helpful for some people.

Men experience ED issues. Not being able to have an erection is not a cause for concern.

If ED issues last more than a few weeks, you should see a doctor. They can rule out underlying issues that may be causing ED.

Talking with a doctor can help you determine the cause of ED. If a cause is diagnosed, you can often begin treatment immediately.

“ED can be treated in a variety of ways. One of the main treatments was prostatic massage. Doctors don’t use this strategy as much as they used to.”

People are still looking for prostatic massage. It is often used with other forms of treatment.

Being honest with yourself, your partner, and your doctor can help you find a solution to your ED.
